Answers, documents, and help for Octoglass products

Frequently asked questions

How do I select glass for a project?
Describe the application, structural requirements, and operating conditions — Octoglass engineers will help identify the right direction. TODO: expand with the approved process.
What data is needed for a quotation?
Typical inputs include dimensions, application type, special requirements, and volume. The exact list depends on the product and project.
Can you take on custom R&D?
Yes. Octoglass performs R&D and adapts solutions to customer technical requirements.
Are samples available?
Sample availability is discussed for the specific product and task. TODO: confirm the procedure.
How can I get product documents?
Manuals, the configuration app, and license agreements for Octopus KDS automotive controllers are in the Technical documentation section on this page — Russian and English files where both exist. Certificates, declarations, and patents are in Certificates and patents on the About page. For catalogs and project packs on glazing, contact sales@octoglass.ru.
How do I choose electrochromic glass for a car?
Describe the vehicle and requirements — the Octoglass team will process the request. In the future, such inquiries will be routed to dealers.
Which drawing formats do you accept?
DXF/DWG are preferred. You can also send a PDF drawing or sketch in any graphic format for preliminary evaluation - digital geometry is usually needed for production.
Is it possible to provide, for example, a 3D model or a point cloud for cutting?
It is possible, but additional processing of non-standard data and converting them into drawings will require the inclusion of additional services in the order.
What type of glass cutting do you use?
We use roller cutting with diamond or carbide rollers, in some cases, crystal cutting can be used. The cutting tool makes a "scratch" on the glass, which then breaks the glass.
How precise is the cutting?
For cutting, a computerized machine and a laser positioning system of the cutting head are used in relation to the workpiece. The operator's involvement in the direct glass cutting process is excluded. However, due to the physical size of the cutting tools, the precision of the cut is of the order of 1 mm.
Can I order cutting only, without further processing?
Yes. Cutting can be a separate service or the first stage of a complete route at the Octoglass site. However, we warn you that glass without edge treatment (grinding or polishing) contains stress zones after breaking along the cutting line and may spontaneously collapse, for example, during transportation. Additionally, it should be borne in mind that in the process of breaking glass along the cutting line, cracks and small chips may remain on the glass, which it is also desirable to remove by processing the edge.
Can transparent glass be scanned?
Transparent and reflective surfaces need a case-by-case review: surface prep and capture method depend on the part. Send photos and the goal — we will advise whether scanning is feasible.
What is needed for reverse engineering?
Typically the object itself, photos, approximate size, and a clear goal: 1:1 reproduction, adaptation, or mold/tooling prep.

Technical documentation

Manuals, the configuration app, and license agreements for Octopus KDS automotive controllers used with electrochromic glass. Russian and English files are published where both editions exist.

Octopus KDS-2 controllers — current materials

The Octopus KDS-2 automotive controller family operates electrochromic glass. Use this group of files for new deliveries and firmware 3.00 and later.

Current

User and installer manual — firmware 3.00 and later

The primary document for the Octopus KDS-2 family of automotive controllers used with electrochromic glass. This edition covers current controllers running firmware 3.00 and later and is written for both the end user and the installer: system overview, commissioning, and day-to-day operation. If you are working with the current KDS-2 line, start here. A Russian edition is available alongside the English file.

Current

Configuration application — version 0.1.6

The current configuration application for the Octopus KDS-2 controller family. Use it to connect to the controller, review and change parameters, and support work on the current 3.xx firmware branch. Russian and English builds are separate archives, each about 53 MB. Read the application end-user license agreement before installing.

Current

Firmware upgrade and configuration guide

A practical guide to flashing Octopus KDS-2 controllers and configuring them. It is aimed at installers and service engineers: when you need to load new firmware, check communication with the unit, or set operating parameters. Use it together with the configuration app — version 0.1.6 for 3.xx firmware, version 0.1.5 for earlier builds.

Earlier KDS-2 versions

Materials for older and retiring controllers running firmware below 3.xx. For new units, use the current set above.

Previous version

User and installer manual — earlier revisions

The same Octopus KDS-2 family, but the edition for older and retiring controllers — primarily those on firmware below 3.xx. The content is close to the current manual, yet it matches earlier hardware and software revisions. Keep this file if older units remain in the field; for new deliveries use the firmware 3.00 and later document.

Previous version

Configuration application — version 0.1.5

The previous configuration application for KDS-2 controllers. Use it with firmware below 3.xx: the current 0.1.6 client is built for the newer branch, so do not install it on older units “just in case”. Russian and English builds are separate archives of about 53 MB each.

License agreements

Bilingual RU/EN documents. Read them before installing the application and before updating controller firmware.

License

End-user license agreement — KDS-2 firmware

The end-user license agreement for firmware of the Octopus KDS-2 controller family. A single bilingual RU/EN file covers the software that runs on the controller itself, not the desktop application. Read it before a firmware update and before handing the unit to the customer. The agreement does not replace the technical manual.

License

End-user license agreement — configuration application

The end-user license agreement for the Octopus KDS-2 configuration application. The document is bilingual (RU/EN); read it before installing and using the software. It sets the terms on which the application is provided and does not replace the firmware and configuration guide.

Archive: KDS-1 controller

The predecessor of the KDS-2 line. This section is not used for new projects.

Archive

KDS-1 controller manual

Documentation for the KDS-1 controller — a very early model that has long been out of production and was almost never supplied to end customers. The file is kept as an archive reference for rare systems already in the field. There is no English edition. For current electrochromic glazing and new projects, use the Octopus KDS-2 set.
