Octoglass, in cooperation with technology partner Metro Media LLC (OOO Metro Media), successfully completed a project to create a transparent OLED display with variable transparency, intended for installation as a window in passenger rail transport.
The innovation lies in combining an organic LED display with an electrochromic filter that can automatically control display contrast and block bright external light. This approach addressed several important needs at once:
- acoustic and thermal comfort for passengers in the cabin;
- improved safety in abnormal situations.
After successfully completing pilot tests of the Interactive Transparent Display project in the Moscow Metro, colleagues at Metro Media approached us about sunlight washout of their media window on open metro sections and expressed interest in using our electrochromic filter in their final solution.
The electrochromic glazing developed by Octoglass specialists maintains stable contrast even in bright daylight while blocking ultraviolet radiation from reaching the OLED display.
