The first electrochromic insulating glass unit manufactured by Octoglass is ready for shipment to the customer. Electrochromic glass within the IGU dynamically adjusts solar gain to the user’s preference. Thanks to a wide dynamic range, the unit can be tinted during the day under bright sun to reduce glare on monitor and TV screens, and cleared in the evening to extend natural daylight. The neutral black tint preserves a neutral room lighting color without a shift toward blue or red. An added benefit of the Octoglass solution is extra thermal insulation from several metallized layers in the glass that reflect infrared radiation well. In winter, heat loss through such an IGU is lower; in summer, it helps keep out oppressive solar heat.
